The strength of the college lies in the well stacked library with a large number of books, magazines, journals and newspapers of national repute and educational CDs’. The library is accessible to the students during the working hours and also after the college hours. It has also got a separate reading room facility. Of late, the library has been fully automated with a separate wing for the state of the art “Digital Library” and Internet facility. The Library is capable to catter to the needs of the students and the faculty members during and after the college hours by providing rich service.

Introduction:

As Library plays a vital role in the development of higher education, it functions as a dynamic instrument of education, to feed the intellect of student, faculty and all those who enter its house to partake fully of its intellectual contents. The library had started to function along with the inception of the college in the year 1964. It begun with a humble collection offinger counting books and gradually started to grow by adding more and more book, and magazines catering to growing needs of the college. On par with the growing strength of the college, the management went on by sanctioning sizeable funds to purchase the books & the other accessories of library. To accommodate growing number of books, proportionately
cupboards and other requisite furniture have been added. Presently, library has the collection of 31393 books, 15 magazines with monthly periodicity and daily 10 newspapers. Library has been subscribed to NLIST service for remote access to E-Resources such as e-books, e-magazines. e-journals., etc.

Digital Library

A Digital Library is a special library with a focused collection of digital objects that can include text, visual material, audio material, video material, stored as electronic media formats (as opposed to print, microform, or other media), along with means for organizing, storing, and retrieving the files and media contained in the library collection. Digital libraries can vary immensely in size and scope, and can be maintained by individuals, organizations, or affiliated with established physical library buildings or institutions, or with academic institutions. The electronic content may be stored locally, or accessed remotely via computer networks. An electronic library is a type of information retrieval system.

 

The mission of the digital library is to provide an effective and efficient information infrastructure to the central library for providing access to the current and relevant, online resources, nurturing an environment and culture which is helpful in advancing the usage of e-learning resources for enabling stakeholders to contribute in the global society. 10 systems have been provided with the objective to make it as the academic hub.

Access is made available to INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network), N-List consortium resources, e-journals, e-books, and free/open access resources directory. Academic information on cd-rom, audio and video formats are made available for users. Printing, scanning, unlimited browsing and download facilities are offered.

 

The library is supported with “e-Lib” integrated library management software with all the modules for the library housekeeping operations. The library opac provides access to library catalogue. Users can search the resources by author, title, and subject and accession number.
